Romance of Perfume Lands cover and illustration: An antique book cover with a teal background and ornate golden embossed lettering and illustrations. The title reads "Romance of Perfume Lands or The Search for Capt. Jacob Cole Illustrated." The top of the cover features a decorative arch with the word "Romance" prominently displayed. Below, two figures are embossed in gold: on the left, a man in a suit and on the right, a figure in tribal attire with a feathered headdress. The poem illustration features a dramatic scene set on a cliff edge. A group of five warriors wearing traditional attire with feathered headdresses, are seen on the left side of the cliff. They appear to be in a state of agitation or performing a ritual, with one of them holding a spear. On the right side of the cliff, a woman with long flowing hair and wearing a dress is falling off the edge. She is reaching out with one arm, her body angled away from the cliff, which is rugged and steep, and the bottom is not visible, suggesting a significant height. The overall mood of the image is tense and foreboding.
